Institute for Studies in
Theoretical Physics and Mathematics was founded in 1989 for the purpose of
encouraging research in mathematics and theoretical physics. The areas of research have since expanded to include Cognitive Sciences and
computer science, and further expansion in
envisaged.
The objectives of the Institute are
carried out through the implementation of the followings:
1. Initiation of active research
in selected areas of interest to
the Institute.
2. Provision of physical facilities and
infrastructure for research, principally a
strong library,
networking, and computer facilities.
3. Regional and international
cooperation through seminars, workshops,
conferences and the dissemination of
scientific literature.
4. Cooperation with Iranian
universities and other institutes which are active in
research and in
the training
of graduate students through joint programs,
awarding of
grants and sharing of facilities.
5. Temporary appointments through
postdoctoral and other visiting
programs aimed at providing both
research opportunities for scientists from
Iran and abroad
and enriching the existing research projects of the Institute.
6. Promotion of new areas of
research through the establishment of temporary
advanced degree
programs.
7. Offering of technical services
in applied areas connected with the work of
the Institute.
It is hoped that the activities of
the Institute will contribute development
of human resources and the
enhancement
of scientific
research in Iran.
