11:00 - 12:00 Wednesday Weekly Seminar-google meet Design Alternatives Using Drift Tube Linac Type Structures for a NIMMS Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility School PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS Abstract: The next generation of heavy ion therapy and research facilities is under study within the Next Ion Medical Machine Study (NIMMS) project at CERN. Deploying heavy ions like carbon in the treatment of cancerous tumors has the advantage of sharper dose distribution. In addition, due to higher relative biological effectiveness compared to proton or photon irradiation, carbon irradiation is more appropriate for the treatment of radioresistant tumors. Several experimental beam-lines are being considered for a wide range of research applications ranging from biomedical and nuclear physics studies to material research. The choice of the ri ... 13:30 - 15:00 Weekly Seminar (Online) Dust Emission in Millimeter Waves: Cooling of Star-Forming Regions in NGC 6946 https://www.skyroom.online/ch/soa/weekly-seminar School ASTRONOMY We study the origin of the millimeter continuum emission from star-forming regions in the Fireworks galaxy NGC 6946 observed with the NIKA2 at IRAM-30m telescope within the IMEGIN key science project. The continuum emission at 1.15 mm and 2 mm emerges mainly from thermal dust grains, free-free, and synchrotron emission. The dust component is compared with the dust emission at sub-mm wavelengths observed with Herschel Space observatory. Also, contamination with molecular lines is investigated. Subtracting the contributions of the free-free, synchrotron, and CO(2-1) molecular line emission from the observed mm emission, we obtain the pure dust ... 14:00 - 15:00 Weekly Webinar Correlation-Picture Approach to Open-Quantum-System Dynamics School NANO SCIENCES Correlation-Picture Approach to Open-Quantum-System Dynamics Abstract: We introduce a dynamical picture, referred to as correlation picture, which connects a correlated bipartite state to its uncorrelated counterpart. This picture allows us to derive an exact dynamical equation for a general open-system dynamics with system-environment correlations included. This exact dynamics is in the form of a Lindblad-like equation even in the presence of initial system-environment correlations. For explicit calculations, we also develop a weak-correlation expansion that allows us to introduce systematic perturbative appro ... |
