Light scattering from clusters of particles using multipole fields method

Abstract:

Optical properties of aggregates distinct them from their bulk counterparts. Till now, light scattering from a populous cluster is mostly studied using the dipole approximation. In this study, we use multipole fields method to study the influence of arrangement of particles on the light absorption and scattering of a cluster. We pay attention to various nanoparticles, including charged, hollow, anisotropic, and metallic particles. We calculate electric and magnetic field enhancement in the gaps of dimers and trimers of hollo ...

Non-relativistic effective field theories and its applications to cosmology

PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS

Abstract: Field theories in the non-relativistic limit are of interest in a wide range of physical situations. In particular - in the context of cosmology - it is an appropriate tool for studying the axion dark matter and superradiant instabilities. In this talk, I will introduce a systematic and self consistent way of taking the non-relativistic limit of a field theory from which one can read off the leading order theory for the non-relativistic system as well as its relativistic corrections. Time permitting, I will discuss possible applications of the formalism to cosmology.
